A price per square foot can hide most of the decisions that shape an outdoor structure. Compare written scopes before comparing totals.
The site and the structure
Access, ground conditions, foundations, attachment to the house and the approved design can change the work substantially. A flat-looking patio is not enough information to price the supporting structure.
Materials and details
Wood species and grade, finished dimensions, hardware, coatings and roof treatment should be identified in the quote. Lighting, screens or other additions can introduce separate trades and requirements.
What is included?
Ask about design, permits where required, site preparation, disposal, finish and cleanup. Check whether taxes, delivery and any specialist work are included. A lower number is hard to judge if these items are missing.
