Start with the existing opening

The original woodwork had worn areas that needed attention. This job called for a replacement frame made to fit the opening. The photos follow the old detail, the joinery on the bench and the completed dark frame.

From the workbench to the house

I made the wooden frame, worked through the joints and fitted the finished piece. The proportions of the divided sections and their relationship to the surrounding trim were part of the job, not something to leave until the end.

It is a useful example of the woodwork behind a handyman project. A repair can involve making a specific part that the house needs, rather than replacing everything around it.

What to send for a similar project

Photograph the whole window from inside and outside, then the damaged wood up close. Approximate opening dimensions help too. I’ll look at the condition and scope before suggesting a repair or replacement approach.
