How to Choose a Handyman for Your Project

Before comparing quotes, make sure everyone is looking at the same job. “Fix the door” can mean adjusting a hinge, repairing damaged wood or replacing the whole assembly.

Send the same details to each person

Include photos, the address area, dimensions where useful and what you want the finished result to do. Say whether you are supplying materials. Ask what the quote includes and what still needs an on-site look.

Look for specific evidence

A relevant project photo or video tells you more than a long list of services. Ask about a similar task, how the person would approach yours and what could change the scope. Client reviews can help, but read what the reviewer actually says about the work.

Confirm the scope before scheduling

Ask who will do the work and whether the job needs a licensed trade or a permit. Establish that before scheduling. A clear scope and quote should identify the work, materials and any specialist requirements.

Agree on the next step

A useful quote identifies the work, materials, price and arrangements. If a detail is unclear, ask before booking. For my process, see how I work.

Have a related project?

Send me a few photos, your city and what you’d like changed. I’ll look at the scope before we discuss a date. Contact Alex or see current services.
